La première faute

La première faute

A powerful debut about the troubles of a couple, a family and a generation born in the nineties.

When Valentine meets François in 2013 they are both in their twenties and students of journalism. They are young, good-looking and despite all their differences, fall madly in love. No matter that Valentine loves order and tradition and François supports progress and strives for fairer tomorrow, together they are happy and have their whole life ahead of them to change their minds.

The years pass, with their first job, apartment and then marriage. Ten years later, François has become a grand reporter and Valentine is an editorialist. They have three children. Yet what looks like an ideal family on the surface is far from it. There is a kind of pervading dissonance in their relationship that, perhaps, has always been there, just below the surface.

This first novel explores family, marriage and the relationship between two people who optimistically chose each other for their differences. It describes both a time and a love story as redeeming as they are destructive.
