Le crime de l'hôtel de Saint-Florentin

Le crime de l'hôtel de Saint-Florentin

Volume five of the investigations of Nicolas Le Floch, Commissioner of Châtelet.

Difficult times for Nicholas Le Floch. Louis XV is dead and Sartine has just been named Secretary of State to the Navy. Just as he decides the time is right to devote himself more to his family, the Minister of the King?s house, M. de Saint-Florentin, recruits him to investigate a murder committed in the kitchens of his own residence.

A chamber maid?s neck has been slit open in what appear to be the strangest of circumstances: everything seems to lead to the guilt of the head housekeeper, also found drenched in his own blood, after what looks like attempted suicide. Yet, the clues and witness statements are contradictory and suspicion soon weighs heavily on the master of the house himself, M. de Saint-Florentin.

Nicolas? investigation will take him from Paris to some cattle raising farms in the country, and then to Versailles where he will consolidate his position with Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and the first minister, Maurepas. A slight detour there, and love will take him by surprise

The strange mysteries of Trianon, the horrors of Bicetre, a phantom carriage, attempted cover-ups, several more killings and a surprising murder weapon, not to mention threats against his own life all punctuate Le Floch?s thrilling new adventure

"Le Floch is in better shape than ever, nobody can doubt his efficiency and we are impatiently awaiting his next investigation."
Le Nouvel Observateur

"Parot's novels can be consumed as a thirst quenching table wine as an excellent "grand cru". Breathless to the end, one comes back for more to savour the rich and intricate quality...."
Figaro Madame
